North Texas Rideshare Driver Kidnapped at Gunpoint, Forced to Drive to Miami

ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Recent court records detail a terrifying encounter between a North Texas rideshare driver and his passenger.

Federal prosecutor said a a Lyft driver picked up 23-year-old Miguel Alejandro Pastran Hernandez in Arlington last Friday and he requested to be taken to a gas station.

During the ride, Pastran is accused of pulling out a gun, threatening to tie the driver up and forcing the victim to take him to south Florida.

Investigators said he forced the driver to call his family and tell them he was on a work trip to explain his absence.

The two arrived in Miami the next day. According to the court document, Pastran ordered the driver to stop at a Dollar General near Miami on Monday so he could get supplies for another kidnapping.

He allegedly told the driver he was going to hold that person for a $3 million ransom.

The victim eventually escaped by hiding in the store’s bathroom. It’s not clear if the driver called the police or if the staff did.

Pastran took the driver’s car keys and took off on foot. Police captured him hours later in Hollywood, Florida and he admitted to carrying out the crime spree.

After being booked in the Broward County jail, he was released to U.S. Marshals.

He’s facing numerous charges including kidnapping, carjacking and possession of a firearm.
