Blinken said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had accepted a U.S.-backed proposal and urged Hamas to accept it as a starting point for more talks, according to the Associated Press.
The war broke out after the October 7, 2023 terrorist attacks by Hamas in Israel, almost 1200 people were killed.
Since then, more than 40,000 people have been killed in Gaza, mostly women and children, according to the local health ministry.
