Texas Health Resources to Build Full-Service Hospital in Forney to Meet Needs Amid Record Growth

KAUFMAN COUNTY (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Texas Health Resources is building a new hospital in Kaufman County to meet the growing needs.

The 242,000 square foot facility in Forney will be equipped with an emergency room, operating suites as well as a labor and delivery department.

Texas Health Kaufman Chief Nursing Officer and President Toya White said the current facility has been the only hospital serving residents over the past forty years in one of the fasting growing counties in the country.

“However, there are additional needs in areas such as Forney with an absence in gaps in healthcare there. So, with a population growth that Kaufman County has experienced there’s absolutely a need for additional healthcare and access points to meet the needs of the consumers,” she said.

White said while many patients can be treated at the current facility, there are gaps in services that could be vital.

“Some that could have a detrimental impact on healthcare such as someone who is laboring or having complications with labor and delivering. Currently, in the area, we don’t have a labor and delivery service, so this will help to meet that need,” she said.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Kaufman County is growing faster than any other in the country and Forney is considered one of the nation’s rapidly-expanding cities.

Texas Health CEO Barclay Berdan said the decision to build in the area makes sense.

“With deep roots in the community, including a hospital in Kaufman that has served this community for more than 40 years, we are excited to bring additional health care for Kaufman County residents,” he said.

Forney Mayor Jason Roberson said he’s also excited about the several hundred jobs that the facility will bring to the community.

“We are thrilled to welcome this facility to Forney, as it will provide our residents with top-quality healthcare right here in our city,” said Forney Mayor Jason Roberson. “We look forward to welcoming Texas Health Resources and the positive impact it will have on our community.”

The hospital will be built on 50 acres along Highway 80 and is expected to be completed in 2027.

Texas Health is also working with its partners to build healthier communities with the more than $1 million in grants its provided in Kaufman County over the last five years to address issues like mental health, social isolation and food insecurity in underserved areas.
