GRAND PRAIRIE (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The North Texas community is raising money for a family hit by tragedy over the weekend.
Four members of the Rosales family were killed when a man accused of street racing crashed into their SUV on Saturday.
It happened on South Belt Line Road near Kingston Drive around 8:15 p.m.
Grand Prairie police said five people were riding in a Chevy Traverse that was traveling north on Belt Line. When the Traverse turned left onto Kingston, it collided with a red Dodge Charger.
The fiery wreck claimed the lives of three people at the scene and a fourth person died at the hospital.
Relatives identified the victims as the father and mother, Jessie and Lorena Rosales, 13-year-old Stephanie Rosales and 6-year-old Angel Rosales.
17-year-old Anthony Rosales is fighting for his life in the ICU.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family pay for funeral and hospital expenses.
Investigators say 20-year-old Jaime Mesa was driving the red charger. He’s facing four counts of manslaughter, four counts of racing on a highway causing death, one count of racing on a highway causing serious bodily injury and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
He’s currently hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the second vehicle involved in the race, a white Dodge Charger Daytona, fled the scene after the crash, according to investigators.
22-year-old Anthony Morales is accused of driving that second car. He’s facing four counts of racing on a highway causing death and one count of racing on a highway causing serious bodily injury.
Street racing has been a growing problem in North Texas with numerous police departments implementing policies to crack down on the dangerous trend.
