FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF) – An athlete competing in the CrossFit Games event going on this week and weekend in Fort Worth has died.
Rescue crews responded to a drowning call during a Run-Swim event Thursday morning.
Fort Worth Fire spokesman Craig Trojacek said they were called out to Marine Creek Lake around 8:00am Thursday.
“We had our dive teams come out, we had our arson teams come out with their drones to help locate the missing person,” Trojacek said.
Divers pulled the body of the missing person out of the water about an hour after responding to the scene.
CrossFit CEO Don Faul expressed his thoughts about the tragedy that fellow athletes saw as it happened.
“CrossFit is deeply saddened by one of our athletes at the swimming portion of one of our events this morning,” Faul said.
The rest of Thursday’s events associated with the Games has been canceled.
