DALLAS – (WBAP/KLIF) – At least three people are injured; one critically by stabbing, after a multi-car crash, fight, and alleged multiple car thefts shut down a portion of 635 westbound between Greenville Avenue and Forest Lane this/Tuesday morning. The issue began about 7:15 AM.
A driver is under arrest after witnesses say he fought with another driver he was involved in a multi-car accidnet with. Dallas Police spokeswoman Kristin Lowman says when another driver tried to help the first, that driver was stabbed. A TXDOT employee working nearby ran over to help that driver, but witnesses say the suspect stole the TXDOT vehicle and ran over the TXDOT worker, then crashing that vehicle.
Witnesses say when another driver saw the melee and ran to help, the suspect stole that person’s vehicle and ran into that driver as well. Four people are hospitalized and appear to be in stable condition, although the driver who was stabbed is reported in critical condition. Police say a crowd then chased the suspect and managed to get him to the ground, holding him until police arrived.
The highway was shut down for hours, including side lanes usually used by drivers when a highway becomes blocked by an accident. The intial crash kicked off a flurry of other crashes and fender benders. The name of the suspect is not yet released, pending charges. Police indicate the suspect was taken to an area hospital as a precaution, along with the stabbing victim and two other drivers allegedly struck with vehicles by the suspect.
