WYLIE (WBAP/KLIF News ) – First responders in Wylie found the body of a man reported missing after four kayakers’ trip down the Trinity River turned into a tragic water rescue.
The initial call for help came in just after 4:30 Monday afternoon near the Elm Fork of the Trinity South of the Lavon Lake Dam.
Rescuers were able to pull three people out of the water. Two were sent to the hospital for check ups and one was treated at the scene.
Wylie police said they contacted the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to close the Lavon Dam gates to reduce the water flow during the search.
Crews found the 28-year-old man’s body about four hours later. The victim has not been identified.
His drowning is one of several in the Trinity River in the past month.
