DART is Considering Increasing Their Rates

(WBAP/KLIF) – DALLAS, TX – Several North Texas cities are asking about the money being spent on DART, and have stated that they are not getting enough out of the public transit system to justify the expense. In response, DART is considering changes to their fares. The $2.50 single ride option would be eliminated for a three hour pass costing $3 for local rides. The annual pass would also be eliminated leaving only the monthly pass option which would increase from $96 a month to $126. The price for day passes would remain the same.

A handful of cities, including Farmers Branch, Irving, Plano, Rowlett, and Carrollton have voted on resolutions to reduce funding to DART by 25%. Both Dallas and University Park are considering a vote, but unilaterally reducing their tax rate is an action that can only be made by the DART board of directors. Any changes would also have to apply to all 13 member cities.
