DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News ) – A Dallas police sergeant is on administrative leave after being accused of posting “aim better” on social media after the assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump over the weekend.
According to DPD, the department received an internal complaint on July 13 about Sergeant Arturo Martinez’s alleged comment.
The situation comes days after the shocking turn of events Trump’s campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday.
The FBI identified 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks as the gunman who fired several shots.
Trump’s ear was injured, 50-year-old Corey Comperatore was killed and two other rally goers suffered injuries. Investigators said Comperatore, a former fire chief, used his body as a shield to protect his family from the bullets.
“When I received notification regarding the comment posted, disappointed would be an understatement,” Chief Eddie Garcia said in a statement. “If in fact true, the comment made has no place in our society, and certainly no place in law enforcement. I was appalled at what transpired on Saturday in Pennsylvania. The violence was unacceptable and has no place in our country. We are grateful former President Trump was not seriously injured. Our hearts are with those injured on Saturday and with the family and friends of Corey Comperatore, who tragically lost his life. The comments made, if confirmed, certainly do not reflect the professionalism and dedication of the men and women of the Dallas Police Department.”
Martinez, who has been with the department since 2010, will remain on leave pending the outcome of an investigation.
