There is a Slight Chance That Texans Could Be Facing Rolling Blackouts This Summer

(WBAP/KLIF) – AUSTIN, TX – On Monday, ERCOT and the Public Utilities Commission testified before the Committee on State Affairs in Austin. At the hearing, ERCOT stated that due to the growing demand of electricity, there is a 12% chance that Texans will face rolling blackouts this summer. ERCOT added that if rolling blackouts are initiated they will take place in August and at night when there is low wind power production.

To avoid the possibilities of future blackouts, the Public Utilities Commission proposed constructing more nuclear power plants to improve the reliability of the state’s power grid. Currently Texas only has two nuclear power plants, one of which is located south west of the Metroplex in Glen Rose.
