DALLAS, TX – (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas police are ready to launch a new facial recognition tool that they say will help them identify suspects in all kinds of crimes. The department is testing software from a company called Clear View A-I which can take the surveillance video of a crime, and find the perpetrators face in its database, which is built by searching billions of photos posted online including people’s social media accounts.
Dallas police have stated that at least two human officers will review the results of the software’s search. However, the ACLU has stated that the technology can lead to wrongful arrests across the country. Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia stated that the department is going to establish rules on how to use the technology, and report back to city council after six months of testing.
