(WBAP/KLIF) — The U.S. Justice Department (DOJ) has determined that Boeing violated a settlement that allowed the company to avoid criminal prosecution after two deadly crashes involving its 737 MAX aircraft.
The DOJ will now determine whether or not it will file charges against the aircraft maker. Justice Department Fraud Section Head Glenn Leon says Boeing violated a condition of its $2.5 billion 2021 crash settlement by failing to make changes to prevent it from violating federal anti-fraud laws.
it’s not clear whether the government will prosecute the manufacturing giant, as they have until July 7th to make a decision. Two 737 MAX jet crashes killed nearly 350 people in 2018 in Indonesia and 2019 in Ethiopia.
