(WBAP/KLIF) — The City of Dallas held a ground-breaking ceremony, Thursday, for the most comprehensive renovation of the legendary Cotton Bowl Stadium.
Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson joined Fair Park First CEO Brian Luallen and city leaders to turn dirt on a two-year project to upgrade the historic venue. The upgrade includes 14 new escalators and the construction of two new, multi-story entries at the west gates that feature outdoor terraces.
Improvements to the stadium also include additional restrooms, concession stands, premium seating and a newly expanded press area in the south end zone.
Luallen credited those who helped secure funding for the cotton bowl renovation project, at both the city and state levels, while Johnson indicated that the project is part of the largest financial investment in Fair Park’s 137-year history. The iconic Cotton Bowl renovations are scheduled to be completed by the start of the 2025 State Fair of Texas.
