(WBAP/KLIF) — The Metroplex is gearing up to host the equivalent of nine Super Bowls. The FIFA World Cup is still two years away, however if businesses aren’t preparing now, they may miss the boat.
UNT business expert Michael Savoie says the business community has a golden opportunity to cater to a large population, as a couple hundred thousand fans from across the world will descend upon DFW. More than two billion people are expected to watch the 2026 World Cup.
Savoie believes business owners need to begin preparing now to alter their offerings towards World Cup visitors, as the economic impact to North Texas is anticipated to be around $400 million. Nine World Cup games will be played in the Metroplex between June 14th and July 14th of 2026.
Savoie says restaurants, hospitality, gift shops and other entertainment businesses are poised to rake the most during the World Cup, while ethnic restaurants and clothing retailers that cater to visitors should also fare very well, financially. Dallas is one of 16 host cities across North America.
