A Dallas man is set to be executed Wednesday night despite calls for more time.
50-year-old Ivan Cantu was found guilty of capital murder back in 2000 after the deaths of his cousin, James Mosqueda, and his cousin’s fiancée, Amy Kitchen.
He was sentenced to die in 2001 and has been on death row ever since.
But he and his lawyers say new evidence proves his innocence in the case. And so does the foreman of the jury that found cantu guilty, Jeff Calhoun.
The state of Texas will execute Cantu at 6 p.m. unless Governor Greg Abbott steps in. The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals denied a stay on Tuesday.
