Richardson ISD families are reacting to the district’s proposed plan to close five schools.
“Project Rightsize” would consolidate or re-purpose five elementary campuses for the 2024- 2025 school year, including Greenwood Hills Elementary, Springridge Elementary, Spring Valley Elementary and Thurgood Marshall Elementary.
The district reportedly has around 9,000 empty seats in its elementary schools.
And Superintendent Tabitha Branum says that by closing, the district would save around $11 million, which would go back into the school though things like student programs and staff pay.
The decision to finalize “Project Rightsize” is quickly approaching on March 25th.
But, the district says it wants to hear from its parent first.
They’ll be hosting a series of listening sessions, starting today at 6 p.m.
