Garland Man Accused of Using Uber Driver to Deliver Fentanyl Charged with Murder in Wylie Man’s Overdose Death

WYLIE (WBAP/KLIF News ) – A Garland resident has been charged with the murder of a Wylie man who died due to a fentanyl overdose earlier this year.

Jacob Bowers passed away on January 11th and Wylie police say 30-year-old Kennedy Kirby used an unsuspecting Uber delivery driver to drop off fentanyl to the victim.

During a search of Kirby’s apartment, officers found thousands of fentanyl pills, other drugs, a handgun and cash. Kirby was initially charged with manufacturing and delivery of a controlled substance.

Police upgraded the charges to murder following the completion of Bowers’ toxicology report.

The murder charge comes under a new Texas law that allows for fentanyl dealers and manufacturers to be charged with murder in an overdose death.
