Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson is working to address what he says are three major issues in DFW: potholes, parks and public safety.
The Dallas City Council voted Wednesday to move forward with a $1.25 billion bond package and place it on the May 4th ballot.
More than $956 million, or 77% of the bond is allocated for Dallas streets, parks and other public safety propositions such as a modern law enforcement training academy
This is something Mayor Johnson has been working towards since his 2022 State of the City Address.
The parks proposition will also help to achieve Mayor Johnson’s greening initiative, which is based on a goal of ensuring that every resident lives within a 10-minute walk of a park or trail. Currently, 27% of the city’s 1.4 million residents lack that kind of park access.
The final propositions will be:
· Streets & Transportation: $521,200,000
· Parks & Recreation: $345,270,000
· Public Safety: $90,000,000
· Cultural Arts Facilities: $75,200,000
· Economic Development: $72,300,000
· Flood Protection and Storm Drainage: $52,100,000
· Housing: $26,400,000
· Libraries: $43,530,000
· Homelessness Facilities: $19,000,000
· Information Technology: $5,000,000
