Texas & 14 Other States Oppose Senate Border Bill

(WBAP/KLIF) — 15 states including Texas voice opposition to the Senate’s border bill.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton joined a coalition of 14 other attorneys general to strongly object to the U.S. Senate’s proposed border bill.  The letter highlights the bill’s failure to solve problems contributing to high volumes of border encounters.  Among the shortcomings mentioned, the 15 states are upset the bill does little or nothing to solve the high number of border encounters, eliminate incentives for illegal migrants to come in the first place, or to prevent them from remaining in the u.s. while their immigration process plays out.

The letter went on to say, “We implore our lawmakers to return to the basics: eliminate incentives for aliens to come to the country, eliminate policies, definitions, and loopholes that allow them to illegitimately enter and stay, and credibly fortify national deportation efforts.”

It also calls on Congress to authorize the states to enforce existing Federal immigration laws.
