Experts Weigh How Drone Strike Response May Affect Biden Campaign

(WBAP/KLIF) — The country awaits President Biden’s response to the drone strike that killed three U.S. soldiers.

SMU Political Science Professor Matthew Wilson believes directly striking Iran may result in escalation, which may not go over well with Americans. Not many U.S. citizens are ready for a wider conflict in the Middle East.

Wilson says the president has basically three options. First, to strike Iranian-proxy militia groups in Syria and Iraq. Second, reimpose sanctions against Iran, which would have devastating financial effects on the country’s ability to support terrorism. And, third, strike military targets and terrorist training facilities within Iran.

Meanwhile, Americans are waiting for the President’s response for the drone strike that killed three U.S. servicemen. Wilson believes the most politically beneficial would be the reinstitution of sanctions against Iran, while striking outlying proxy groups in Iraq would be the most minimal response, as the U.S. has already been utilizing this method for several months.

Political experts are also assessing how various retaliatory actions may play out at the polls. Wilson says the President’s decision will either boost or hurt his campaign for re-election. President Biden has yet to specify what type of response is forthcoming.
