Protecting Your Wallet With Insurance Claims

DALLAS – (WBAP/KLIF) – Insurance claims experts suggest your insurance coverage may be fine, but a double check will help you in times of trouble, and a little extra work on your part when making a claim may help speed reimbursement as well.

If your pipes burst in this cold weather, insurance watchdog groups like Texas Watch suggest you save damaged materials like broken pipes, and document what you can in photos and videos, emailing to yourself for safe keeping. They suggest insurance companies may, at times, tell you a pipe break was due to wear and tear, but if you can show them the piece of frozen and broken pipe cut from the wall, there could be less back and forth about what caused the damage.

Further, record on video and in pictures the contents of drawers and closets, in addition to sweeping panoramas of the inside contents of your home: this will help determine replacement value to many things we rely on almost daily, but fail to remember when tallying up the bigger replacement costs.

Likewise, we are advised to check auto insurance policy limits, in the event we slide into an auto which slides into yet another, causing a chain reaction accident. Our policy limits may cover only the damages to a couple or more automobiles, leaving us, otherwise, on the hook for the rest of the damages.
