DALLAS COUNTY (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The first lawsuit has been filed in the wake of Monday’s explosion at the Sandman Signature Hotel in downtown Fort Worth.
It was filed in Dallas County court on behalf of Christopher Medearis, one of 21 people injured in the blast.
The lawsuit said Medearis was working in a building near the hotel when heard and felt the explosion.
He claims was injured when he tripped and fell while running from the blast. The suit names the Sandman Signature Hotel, Atmos energy and parent company Northland Properties.
It argues that the hotel failed to ensure that conditions were safe and Atmos failed to adequately detect and monitor for natural gas leaks at the property.
Medearis is seeking unspecified monetary damages.
One woman is in critical condition and four others were seriously injured.
The cause of the explosion is under investigation. More lawsuits are expected to be filed.
