MINERAL WELLS – (WBAP/KLIF) – Mineral Wells police are investigating the death of a 13 year old boy after he was reported to have shot himself in the head while home alone with his younger brother.
It happened December 29th on Northwest 3rd Avenue. Police say the boy was taken to the hospital and died from his injuries January first. Investigators are looking into the related gun ownership, and how the boy managed to get his hands on the weapon.
Mineral Wells Police Chief Tim Denison is reported as saying “…the child’s family did not own firearms.” But Denison is offering stern advice to parents about keeping weapons out of the hands of children, and ensuring they are secured under lock and key.
The investigation into the child’s death continues.
