(WBAP/KLIF) — The Dallas Cowboys released information, Wednesday, indicating that head coach Mike McCarthy has been hospitalized after experiencing abdominal pain resulting in a diagnosis of acute appendicitis.
McCarthy is schedule for surgery Wednesday afternoon and is expected to be released from the hospital later that day.
The 60-year-old is planning on coaching the Cowboys this Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles. In the meantime, assistant coaches Dan Quinn, Brian Schottenheimer and John Fassel will conduct practice until McCarthy returns. According to DallasCowboys.com,
McCarthy has only missed one game in his 17-year career which was a game against the New Orleans Saints in 2021 for testing positive for COVID-19.
