DALLAS – (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas Police said the man accused of shooting and killing four people, including a one-year-old boy, on Sunday afternoon fatally shot himself.
According to a press release, 21-year-old Byron Carillo left the scene, stole a car and headed south on I-35 to the Austin area.
Highway patrol located him and attempted to stop him. Carillo led officers on a chase before crashing the vehicle in a ditch and taking off on foot.
According to Dallas Police, Carillo shot himself in the head as officers got closer to him. He died at the scene.
Investigators also revealed details about Carillo’s criminal history. He had an ankle monitor on his leg for a 2021 Aggravated Assault charge.
He cut off the monitor at some point, before or immediately after committing the offense, according to the release.
The initial incident happened around 4:20 p.m. at a home in the 9700 block Royce Drive, just south of Highway 20 in the Riley neighborhood in southeast Dallas.
When police arrived, they found five people shot in the home. 50-year-old Jose Lopez, 33-year-old Karina Lopez and 20-year-old Vanessa DeLaCruz died at the scene.
A 15-year-old girl and a one-year-old boy were rushed to a local hospital. The teen is in stable condition but the child, 1-year-old Logan DeLaCruz, died at the hospital.
A 13-year-old girl was also in the house at the time of the shooting but was not injured.
The Texas Rangers are investigating Carillo’s death.
