FORT WORTH — Federal mediators rejected the request by American Airlines flight attendants, within the Association of Professional Flight Attendants, to decline mediation in ongoing negotiations with the airline over pay and other benefits. The move denies the union request that could have saw the union launch a year-end strike by AA flight attendants.
The National Mediatino board has directed the airline and union in question to keep negotiating toward a new contract. The flight attendants say they are not getting offers that will work from American Airlines, and have been working under terms from a 2014 contract. The union has reported many of it’s members, especially those in major markets, have been applying for public assistance in order to pay bills and feed their families. In part, inflation is blamed for the reported inequities.
