(WBAP/KLIF) — Hundreds of thousands of North Texans are flocking to malls, department stores, and specialty retailers to cash in on Black Friday deals. Due to a drop in demand for product orders, experts predict retailers will slash prices to drive foot traffic and attract shoppers on the biggest shopping weekend of the year.
WBAP/KLIF visited Tanger Outlets, an outdoor mall in North Fort Worth, to talk to shoppers. Some stores at Tanger Outlets had lines with as much as a 20-minute wait, however the majority of DFW shoppers say the crowds are less than in years past. The National Retail Federation (NRF) is predicting Americans to spend $36-billion more this holiday season compared to last year. The NRF is estimating nearly 8-million more shoppers over the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend compared to last year, topping 166-million.
While retailers are attracting shoppers with huge discounts, some North Texas shoppers are out to just spend time with loved ones or and people watch, as an NRF survey shows that nearly 30% of respondents shop out of tradition. Many stores across the Metroplex are remain open until 10 or 11 o’clock for the yearly weekend event.
