AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Governor Greg Abbott selected January 30th, 2024 as the date for a closely watched special election runoff for a state House seat out of North Texas.
Republicans Brent Money and Jill Dutton are vying to serve House District 2, formally held by disgraced former State Representative Bryan Slaton of Royse City.
The seat has been vacant since may when a house committee expelled Slaton after it was found that he had sex with a 19-year-old intern after getting her drunk.
The seat spans across Hunt, Hopkins and Van Zandt counties. The winner will finish Slaton’s two-year term which ends January 2025.
Early voting starts on January 22, 2024.
