Court Date Set for Aaron Dean’s Manslaughter Conviction Appeal Hearing

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Former Fort Worth police officer Aaron Dean has a date for his appeal hearing.

He was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to almost twelve years in prison in December 2022 for the fatal shooting of Atatiana Jefferson while on duty.

Dean and his partner were responding to a call from a neighbor about an open door at the home where Jefferson was inside, and Dean fired the shot from outside a window.

The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals set the hearing for December 5 in Tarrant County.

The development comes days after the City of Fort Worth announced a potential $3.5 million settlement with Jefferson’s nephew Zion Carr, who was in the house when the shooting occurred.

The Fort Worth City Council still has to approve the settlement.

Dean is serving his time at the W.F. Ramsey Unit in Rosharon, Texas. He’s eligible for parole in November of 2028.
