Fort Worth Congresswoman Kay Granger Isn’t Seeking Reelection After Decades on Capitol Hill

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Longtime Fort Worth Congresswoman Kay Granger announced Wednesday she will not seek reelection after nearly three decades on Capitol Hill.

The 80-year-old chairs the powerful House Appropriations Committee and has represented Texas’ 12th congressional district since 1997.

She became the first Republican woman to go to the U.S. House from Texas and is also the first female mayor of fort worth.

In a statement issued this week, Granger saids she’s encouraged by the next generation of leaders in her district.

 “It’s time for the next generation to step up and take the mantle and be a strong and fierce representative for the people.  

Although I am not running for re-election, I plan to serve out the remainder of my term and work with our new Speaker and my colleagues to advance our conservative agenda and finish the job I was elected to do,” wrote Granger.
