AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF) – Texas Governor Greg Abbott is ordering Texas flags across the state to be lowered to half-staff to honor those who lost their lives, including American citizens, during what he describes as the “heinous acts of war” carried out against the State of Israel and its people by the terrorist organization Hamas.
The Governor said flags should remain at half-staff through sunset on Saturday, October 14.
Below is a letter sent by the Governor to Texas DPS, making the request:
Dear Colonel McCraw:
Pursuant to Chapter 3100 of the Texas Government Code, flags of the State of Texas on all state
buildings, facilities, and offices are ordered to half-staff immediately to honor those who lost their lives
during the heinous acts of war carried out against Israel and its people, which also killed Americans in
Israel. Flags should return to full-staff at sunset on Saturday, October 14, 2023.
Individuals, businesses, municipalities, and other political subdivisions and entities are encouraged to fly
the Texas flag at half-staff for the same period as a sign of honor and respect.
The First Lady and I extend our prayers of comfort to those affected by this devastating event.
Respectfully,
Greg Abbott
Governor
