Arlington Police Officer Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash on I-20 in Dallas Identified as 24-Year Veteran

UPDATE 10:24 A.M.: Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – The Arlington Police Department has identified the officer who was killed in a hit-and-run Thursday morning.

Officer Darrin McMicheal was riding on his motorcycle on his way to work when he was involved in the crash near I-20 and Dowdy Ferry Road in Dallas.

Investigators said he rear ended an SUV, rolled over the left shoulder and was hit by a driver in a dark-colored sedan.

Officer McMicheal was rushed to a nearby hospital where he later died of his injures.

He was a 24-year veteran of the department and a dedicated member of their motorcycle unit, where he’d served for the last thirteen years.

Officer McMichael also served as a patrol officer and as a detective in our North Patrol Division during his APD career.

“Officer Darrin McMichael was a respected and beloved member of our APD family,” said Chief of Police Al Jones. “We are heartbroken and we are hurting. This is a devastating loss that will be felt for a long time. Please pray for his wife, who is also an APD employee, his family, his friends, and his APD family. They need all the support they can get right now.”

He left behind a wife who is also an Arlington Police Department employee.

Dallas, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – An Arlington police officer was killed in a crash this morning causing a shutdown on westbound I-20 at St. Augustine Drive in Dallas.

According to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, the Arlington officer was riding on a motorcycle in traffic when he rear-ended a car in front of him. He then fell off of his bike, then was hit by another vehicle that fled the scene. Authorities are looking for a dark colored, medium-sized sedan.
