ERCOT Expects Tight Grid Conditions, Requests Conservation Friday from 3pm to 9pm CT

(Austin) WBAP/KLIF – ERCOT is asking Texans to conserve electricity use, if safe to do so, today from 3 p.m. – 9 p.m. The agency says it expects low wind power generation and high demand to continue through the weekend because of extreme heat and is asking Texans to stay tuned for additional communications this weekend.

Thursday, ERCOT avoided emergency operations due to the conservation efforts by Texas residents and businesses, combined with rainfall in the Houston area, improved wind conditions, and additional grid reliability tools.

Similar to Thursday, Friday’s conservation appeal does not indicate ERCOT is experiencing emergency conditions at this time. Current forecasts are showing a potential to enter emergency operations this evening because of expected low wind-power generation and high demand.

ERCOT is requesting all government agencies (including city and county offices) to implement all programs to reduce energy use at their facilities.
