Matthew McConaughey Working with Baby2Baby to Provide Aid to Maui Wildfire Victims

TEXAS (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Hollywood actor and native Texan Matthew McConaughey and his family are working to help survivors of the catastrophic wildfires on the Hawaiian island of Maui.

The death toll has climbed to at least 106, hundreds are still missing and more than 2,200 structures were destroyed.

The Pacific Disaster Center and FEMA said Maui County experienced $5.52 billion in capital exposure, which is the estimated cost to rebuild after the Lahaina Fire.

In a video posted to social media, McConaughey announced that he has partnered with the non-profit “Baby2Baby” to raise money to sponsor flights packed with emergency supplies for Hawaiian relief organizations.

“They are working with partners that are on the ground in Maui saying ‘this is what people need.’ That’s Aloha Diaper Bank, Hawaii Diaper Bank, Pacific Bank Collective and Maui Rapid Response,” he said in a video with his son Levi.

The two asked the public for compassion for the victims.

“The fires over there have put so many people out of home and have taken so many lives. These people need to stabilize to survive,” said McConaughey.
