DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson enters a second-term after running uncontested in Saturday’s May 6 municipal election.
It’s not often that the Dallas Mayor runs without an opponent.
“That hasn’t happened in this city since 1967,” Mayor Johnson toLD WBAP’s Saturday Morning News. “And from what I understand, it doesn’t happen very often across the country.”
The Mayor will begin his second-term with violent crime statistically trending in a positive direction.
In addition to a continued reduction in crime, the Mayor’s priorities include safety, potholes, and parks.
“We want to make sure we get a new Police Academy built here in the city so we can put more Officers on the street,” Mayor Johnson said. “We want to fix these roads so people can commute on a smooth road. And we want to build more parks and green up our city.”
The Mayor said the city will continue to protect against potential ransomware attacks, which are becoming increasingly common across the country.
“We are going to look into everything we can do to improve IT in our city,” the Mayor insisted.
Mayor Johnson said he has questions about the specifics of the recent ransomware incident, and is confident city staff is committed to moving the city forward when it comes to Information Technology. A briefing on the topic is expected next week.
