DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The body of one of the two men who vanished into the Trinity River near the California Crossing Damn on Easter Sunday has been found.
According to the family, 21-year-old Juan Ruben Chel Botzoc was recovered about 100 yards south of the spillway around 3:30 p.m. Thursday and the search continues for 18-year-old Edyn Osvaldo Yat Choc.
The pair, both from Guatemala, were at a picnic when one of them fell into the water while trying to clean a grill.
The other jumped into the river to save him but both men ultimately drowned.
Dallas Police said they’ve used helicopters, drones, boats and cadaver dogs in their attempts to find the bodies. Officials have not officially confirmed the identity of the body.
Advocates in the Latino community have been critical of the recovery efforts by Dallas crews.
