UVALDE (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The one-year anniversary of the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde is weeks away and parents of survivors have launched a GoFundMe to get their families to Disneyland.
According to the campaign’s page, the kids of the school’s room 112 “continue to fight for their recovery everyone knows May 24th is coming and they’re aren’t looking forward to the one-year mark. Our kids came up with a plan to take a trip to get out of Uvalde,” wrote organizer Abigale Veloz.
Her 11-year-old daughter Miah Cerrillo tearfully told lawmakers that she survived the shootings by covering herself in her classmates blood.
Brett Cross lost his son 10-year-old Uziyah Garcia and has become a fierce advocate for gun reform. When speaking with the “Impact Texas with Nicole Osei” show, he talked about the advice he gives those trying to recover from the tragedy.
“Take it second by second. It’s okay to find any joy that you can to keep yourself sane and keep yourself moving,” he said.
The campaign’s goal is $50,000. Since the campaign was launched Monday, it’s raised over $11,000 dollars.
Senator Roland Gutierrez represents Uvalde and has introduced numerous gun reform bills in the wake of the tragedy. He tweeted the GoFundMe campaign link and urged the community to rally around the survivors.
“With all that they endured, the survivors of the Uvalde Shooting deserve a moment to live as kids,” he wrote.
