(WBAP/KLIF) — A new task force has been formed in Tarrant County to combat rising crime at hotels and motels. The White Settlement Police Department’s new Hotel-Motel Task Force aims to crack down on drug & gun crimes committed at overnight lodging businesses.
Police Chief Chris Cook says the task force will consist of officers, code enforcement officials and the Fire Marshall.
Cook says over the past two years around 3,000 service calls have centered around hotels and motes. If business owners refuse to follow existing motel ordinances, lawsuits will likely result. The businesses and crimes are centered around I-30 Frontage Road and the Loop 820 South Service Road.
The Hotel-Motel Task Force will utilize existing officers and funding, leaving normal public safety operations unaffected.
