Austin (WBAP/KLIF) – The Texas Supreme Court heard oral arguments challenging an anti-mask mandate order directed at local from Gov Abbott during the COVID pandemic several months ago.

Dallas County, the City of San Antonio and Harris County alleged that the state legislature gives them specific powers to handle such issues during a disaster. The individual cases were consolidated as they all questioned whether an executive order by Governor Greg Abbott was consistent with authority granted to a Governor under the Texas Disaster Act.

Lawyers for the state contend that Governor Abbott had the authority to suspend mask mandates state-wide. Attorneys for jurisdictions challenging Abbott’s disagree.

It could be months before the Texas high court rules.
