(WBAP/KLIF) — Fort Worth’s Will Rogers Memorial Center has created memories for millions of visitors over its 86 years, and will now receive a facelift to entertain millions more. The anchor of the famed historical district was last renovated in the 1970s.

Fort Worth Public Events Director Michael Crum says the Fort Worth City Council awarded $8.5-million in American Rescue Plan funds for renovations. Plans for the over 27,000 square-foot venue include new flooring, ceiling tiles, lighting, and water-saving restroom fixtures.
Fort Worth will invest money into the coliseum’s concourse, restrooms, lobby, and backstage club, with construction beginning early next year. The Will Roberts Memorial Center hosts a wide range of events each year and generates over $331-million a year for Cowtown.
Fort Worth businessman Amon G. Carter commissioned the facility for the 1936 Frontier Celebration during the Texas Centennial. To view a calendar of events for the Will Rogers Memorial Center, click here!
