Prosper ISD School Board Elects New President Following Arrest, Resignation of Predecessor

PROSPER (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The Prosper ISD school board elected a new president this week in the wake of the scandalous resignation of former president Andrew Wilborn.

He stepped down last month after he was arrested and charged with indecency with a child.

According to Dallas Police, officers learned of an incident involving a 16-year-old who said Wilborn touched her inappropriately during a church function last April while he was an executive pastor at Antioch Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church at the time.

Prosper ISD said the incident did not involve one of its students and said they were unaware of the allegations until after Wilborn’s arrest.

The board elected Debra Smith as president and Kelly Cavender as vice president.

Parents voiced their concerns about the turmoil within the board during public comment at a district meeting Tuesday night.

“We do not trust you to appoint another person as president as the one you just appointed was arrested,” said one parent.

Other parents urged the board to think carefully about the community before making any final decisions.

“Our community is struggling on so many fronts…if you make an appointment you’re making a mistake,” they said.

The school board election will take place in may with two seats, Place 2 and 5, up for grabs.

The board also voted to appoint Wilborn’s successor after that election to allow the incoming board to choose the appointee.
