GRAND PRAIRIE (WBAP/KLIF) – The Grand Prairie Police Department announced on Thursday afternoon an arrest in connection to the death of Officer Brandon Tsai.

Officer Tsai was killed earlier this week during a chase with a vehicle that had suspicious tags. The Officer’s patrol car rolled over before hitting a tree.

According to Grand Prairie Police, Officers, with the assistance of the Dallas Police, took 22-year-old Colbie Hoffman into custody on Wednesday night, and charged him with Evading Arrest and Detention causing Death. That charge is a 2nd-degree Felony and his bond is $250,000. He was also charged with Tampering with Physical Evidence, a 3rd-degree felony, and his bond on that charge is 25,000. Hoffman was also booked on 8 additional warrants out of Waxahachie, Bedford, Desoto, and Grand Prairie that were outstanding at the time of the deadly crash.

“Capturing Hoffman was a very intensive and collaborative effort that included every bureau of the GPPD, as well as the Dallas Police, the Dallas Fusion Center, the Federal Bureau of Investigations, as well as others in a variety of capacities,” Grand Prairie Police Chief Daniel Scesney said.

According to the Chief, the Dallas County District Attorney’s office is examining the case to determine if enhanced charges are appropriate. The vehicle involved in the case is being processed for additional evidence.

A candlelight vigil is planned for outside the Grand Prairie Public Safety building Friday night in honor of Officer Tsai. Funeral services are set for Monday at Gateway Church in Grand Prairie.
