Cowtown Winery Inviting North Texans to See Haunted Side of Fort Worth

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The Cowtown Winery in the Fort Worth Stockyards is inviting brave North Texans to take their ghost tour ahead of Halloween.

Josh Hamilton is the restaurant’s general manager and says one of the most haunted locations is Miss Molly’s Hotel in the heart of the district.

He said some guests from years past still haven’t checked out.

“Guests talking about how they’ll be asleep at night and they’ll feel a presence come slide in to the bed with them and they’ll wake up and no one is there. Apparitions at the foot of the bed,” he said.

Numerous guests have talked about a mysterious little girl who Hamilton said apparently checked into Miss Molly’s with her mother a century ago but never left.

“She’s said to have died from an unknown illness. Her spirit is still there and they think its her because she was known to be a big prankster. She liked to move things around, try to scare people and so we’ve gotten several stories over the years about things being moved little toys rolling across the floor…things like that,” he said.

The activity isn’t limited to Miss Molly’s. Riscky’s Steak House just down the road on the Exchange is also said to be haunted. It was known to be a bordello in the 1800s.

“The story goes that the men that were on the Chisolm Trail that were coming up with cattle would stop at the bordello when they stopped in the Stockyards. But if you look at some of the historical background of the second floor at Riscky’s, it was not just a bordello but it also providing some women’s health services that were outlawed back then and is some places today. Because they were doing a lot of illegal activity…unfortunately the people that did not make it through those procedures, the story goes that they were dumped into the river that was right underneath the window above Riscky’s,” said Hamilton.

The buildings sordid past is said to be the cause of some unexplained noises above the steak house.

“People that work talk about hearing people walking on the second floor. The problem with that is that the second floor is abandoned. They hear the doors open and close. A few sightings back in the kitchen,” he said.
