ERCOT CEO Officially Begins New Role

AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF) – The newly hired CEO at the Electric Reliability Council of Texas officially took over the position on Monday. Prior to Monday, ERCOT had not had a permanent CEO since Bill Magness was fired after the deadly 2021 winter storm. Millions of Texans were left in the dark after ERCOT forced power outages to avoid a grid collapse.

Pablo Vegas of Austin is the new President and CEO of ERCOT. He has over 27 years of experience in the electric and gas industries and in management consulting. Previously, he served as Executive Vice President of NiSource and Group President of NiSource Utilities.

According to Governor Abbott, The Texas Energy Reliability Council was established to ensure that the energy and electric industries in the state meet high-priority human needs, address critical infrastructure concerns, and enhance coordination and communication in the energy and electric industries.
