North Texas (WBAP/KLIF) – North Texas firefighters battled numerous fires Wednesday afternoon through the overnight hours early Thursday.

Over 100 acres have burned in what’s been dubbed the Deep Creek Fire in Wise County. Officials say the fire was sparked after a wrong-way dump truck driver hit a power pole on Pioneer Parkway near Route 287. The fire is 0% contained as crews attempt to create a barrier around the fire to prevent further spread.

Several new fires broke out across North Texas on Wednesday afternoon, including the Colony Fire in Hood County where three firefighters were injured. One of the firemen who is from the Cresson Volunteer Fire Department had to be air-lifted after his fire truck caught fire. His condition is unknown. Two Hood County firemen were treated at the scene.

The fire broke out on Colony Road near Tolar where officials say welders sparked the blaze the spread quickly north.

As the fire pushed north in to Parker County, it sparked a brush fire in Millsap; 50 acres burned before it was contained. As of 8:30 last night, the fire was about 450 acres and 20% contained, according to the Texas A&M Forest Service. At one point, the fire threatened about two dozen homes. At least one structure was damaged.

And in Frisco, 70 acres burned in a grass fire that started near Legacy and Stonebrook. There are no reports of injuries of structures burned.

Elsewhere in Texas, officials with the Texas A&M Forest Service say over a dozen fires are burning across the state.

The largest, the Chalk Mountain Fire in Somervell County has charred 6,700 acres and is 93% contained as of Wednesday.

The Texas A&M Forest Service said the persistent hot/dry conditions are ripe for fires to start and spread quickly. The agency urges residents to stay wildfire aware.
