WASHINGTON (WBAP/KLIF News ) – President Biden took executive action on Friday to protect access to abortion in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
“I am asking the Justice Department that much like they did during the Civil Rights era to do everything they can to protect these women seeking to invoke their rights. In states where clinics are still open, to protect hem from intimidation to protect he right for women to travel from a state that prohibits seeking medical attention that she needs to a state to provide that care,” he said.
One of the order directs agencies to educate medical providers and insurers about federally patient privacy laws.
Another order would expand access to federally approved abortion medication. Before signing the order, Biden pushed back on the High Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
“This was not a decision driven by the Constitution…this was not a decision driven by history…What we’re witnessing wasn’t a constitutional judgment. It was an exercise in raw political power.”
President Biden is facing increasing pressure from fellow Democrats to be more forceful on the issue.
