DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – U.S. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm toured a Lennox research facility in Carrollton on Friday, and said gas prices in America are expected to rise before they drop.
The Biden administration plans to discuss potential solutions to rising gas and crude oil prices with industry executives next week.
“Nothing has been taken off the table,” Se. Granholm said. “The President wants to hear about how to bring down the price for people because it is getting to an unsustainable level.”
Before Friday’s remarks, the DOE announced that Lennox International, American heat pump manufacturer became the first partner in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Residential Cold Climate Heat Pump Technology Challenge to develop a next-generation electric heat pump that can more effectively heat homes in northern climates relative to today’s models. Cold climate heat pumps can provide high-efficiency heating in freezing temperatures without producing greenhouse gas emissions and can save families as much as $500 a year on their utility bills.
“DOE’s Cold Climate Heat Pump Challenge calls on American businesses to make heat pumps more effective at heating and cooling, more efficient in their energy use, and more attractive options for consumers—so more households can unlock $500 in savings each year on utility bills. With this newest prototype, Lennox has answered that call,” said Sec. Granholm. “Tapping into the emerging clean energy market is a huge economic opportunity that will bring a bolstered manufacturing sector, good paying jobs, and a brighter, cleaner future to Texas and communities across America.”
DOE launched the CCHP Technology Challenge in 2021to accelerate development and commercialization of next-generation heat pumps by supporting American innovation and manufacturing.
