Trial Underway for Man Accused of Killing Fort Worth Police Officer Garrett Hull

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The murder trial for one of three men accused in the murder of Fort Worth Police Officer Garrett Hull is underway.

Hull was shot and killed during a an investigation into a string of bar robberies in September 2018.

The defendant, Timothy Huff, is not accused of being the trigger man but he is charged with two counts of attempted capital murder in the killing.

Hull and his team had been following Huff and two other suspects, who were believed to be behind more than a dozen robberies.

Investigators said Hull and his team confronted the trio as they attempted rob another bar.

Prosecutors said that’s when Dacion Steptoe fatally shot Hull in the head. Officers returned fire and fatally shot Steptoe.

The other suspects, including Huff, were arrested.

On Monday, Hull’s wife Sabrina, took the stand and testified that her husband was concerned about the danger surrounding the investigation.

“He felt like there was going to be a shooting involved and I was like ‘don’t put that in the universe, don’t say something like that, I don’t want to think about that,” she said.

Hull was a 17 year veteran of the Fort Worth Police Department. He left behind a wife and two children.

Timothy Huff is charged with capital murder and could be sentenced to death if convicted. The trial was set to begin last week but was delayed when Huff went sent to the hospital where he admitted he “accidentally swallowed a razor blade.”
