Texas (WBAP/KLIF) – Some Texas homeowners can look property tax relief after voters passed two state propositions on the May 7 ballot.

Prop 1 creates an amendment reducing the property tax limit for elderly and disabled residents.

Prop 2 creates an amendment to increase the homestead exemption for school district property taxes from 25-thousand dollars to 40-thousand dollars. Lawmakers say it could save homeowners about $175 on their yearly property tax bill.

In a tweet Saturday, Gov Abbott wrote “Propositions 1 & 2 pass overwhelmingly statewide. Victory for all property owners in Texas!”

In Fort Worth, voters gave a thumbs up to five propositions that are part of a municipal bond package. The largest dollar amount is related to Proposition A — which asked for 360-million dollars for streets and other transportation projects in the city.

Prop F, which would have increased the pay for mayor, city council and all department heads and assistant department heads failed by 53%.

In elections for school board seats across Tarrant County, candidates backed by big-money conservative-PACS swept all but race. One candidate who didn’t win outright is headed to a runoff in June.

The news prompted another tweet from Gov. Abbott:

Conservative victories were seen in Grapevine-Colleyville, Keller, Mansfield and Carroll school districts. Wins came amid debates about “critical race theory [CRT]” and the removal of books discussing sexuality, and other issues.
