President Biden Responds to Leaked Supreme Court Draft Opinion Hinting at Overturning Roe v. Wade

WASHINGTON D.C. (WBAP/KLIF News ) – President Joe Biden issued a verbal and printed response after a Politico report released Monday detailed a Supreme Court draft opinion that hinted the High Court has the votes needed to overturn two landmark abortion cases.

The opinion was written by Justice Samuel Alito and discussed the striking down of the 1973 Roe v. Wade case that legalized abortion nationwide as well as the 1992 Planned Parenthood v. Casey decision.

Speaking to reporters on the White House lawn on Tuesday, President Biden confirmed the draft is real and said it raises the issue of privacy.

“Even more equally profound is the rationale used and it would mean that every other decision related to the notion of privacy is thrown into question,” he said.

Earlier in the day, the President issued a lengthy statement on what he would do if the courts decide to overturn Roe.

“At the federal level, we will need more pro-choice Senators and a pro-choice majority in the House to adopt legislation that codifies Roe, which I will work to pass and sign into law,” said the statement.

A Supreme Court spokeswoman had no comment about the draft opinion or the leak. It’s a situation that has politicians and citizens on Capitol Hill and beyond weighing in.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said an investigation into who leaked the document is needed.

“It’s a real problem for the Supreme Court if certain decisions are leaked early potentially to put pressure on the Court to change their decision. That’s what it look like,” he said.

A majority opinion draft is not final until it’s formally published. The ruling is expected to come down in June.
